INTERNET 2019, The Eleventh International Conference on Evolving Internet

June 30, 2019 to July 04, 2019 – Rome, Italy

In the last few years, Robotics has raised the attention of policymakers. We have seen several initiatives promoted by the European Commission, especially about civil law liability. At the same time, in the rest of the world other Organisations – such as the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology of UNESCO (COMEST) – have paid attention to Robotics as the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology of UNESCO (COMEST).
Artificial Intelligence (AI) certainly plays a crucial role and its technology supports the increasing of Robotics. There are a lot of issues related to Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, both on the technical side and on the legal one. Developing a robotic system entails having a strong technical knowledge background, but technicians today cannot work without legal references. The innovation runs fast, and the development of technical solutions is a proof of that.
Ethics and Data Protection have a key role in this context. On one side, Ethics is not just a philosophy but a real approach to the future; on the other, Data Protection is a challenge to respect each natural person and the information belonging to him or her. The last international conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners adopted a declaration on Ethics and Artificial Intelligence, focusing the attention on Ethics as the right path to respect human dignity avoiding considering each natural person as a pure data.
Blockchain and all related concepts, such as smart contracts and independent organizations, are other issues that can change societies and the economy, leading to a revolution in the way interactions occur between people.
This special track would be the opportunity to discuss Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Data Protection, hoping to carry out important contributions on these topics.

  • Artificial Intelligence
